Dinner & Pills – Our Visit to the Pharmacy 2

We headed down to the Pharmacy 2 in Vauxhall to check out the latest incarnation of Damien Hirst’s restaurant concept (the original Pharmacy was original launched in 1998 in Notting Hill). This time round he has teamed up with Mark Hix and the restaurant is situated in Hirst’s Newport Street Gallery space, between Vauxhall and Lambeth.

On entering the restaurant you do almost feel like handing over your prescription to the maitre d’ and then curiosity takes over. The novelty decor isn’t as kitsch as you would expect, with pills, pharmacy paraphernalia and Hirst’s artworks all harmoniously seaming together, to provide the perfect cure for devouring Hix’s marvellous food.

After having ingested details of various pills from the metallic wallpaper, we moved onto ordering food, which certainly stood up to the challenge of distracting you from the interior styling. We tucked into all the snacks on offer to start, with the cuttlefish croquettes definitely being the one to choose if you are feeling a bit more restraint than us.

For our mains, the enthusiast carnivores among us went for the beef ribs, which was melt in the mouth, while the others sampled the scallops (the biggest we’ve even seen) which were accompanied by juicy mini chorizo sausages, the perfect combination.

If you are planning a visit here definitely save room for dessert, not only are they aesthetically pleasing to the eye, they taste sensational. We’re still dreaming about our next upside-down pineapple cake fix!

To top of the evening we even spotted Damien himself outside the restaurant…

A restaurant we’ve loved this week… Balls & Company

We recently made an impromptu pit-stop at the charming Balls & Company. Situated on Greek Street in Soho, their scrumptious meatballs, relaxed atmosphere and sleek decor certainly hit the ball out of the park with other eateries in the area.

The concept – pick from a choice meatballs and select a sauce to go with. There is also a range of generous sides to accompany the main event. Fresh, excellent quality, every dish was tasty and lead to us all over indulging.

A special shout out has to go out to one of the specials of the day, the leek and goats cheese arancini balls, which was like a delicious piece of heaven in the mouth! We will certainly be back soon!
