The Fragrance Kitchen launches exclusively in the UK at Selfridges this May in their new ground floor fragrance destination.
Based in Kuwait and founded by Sheik Majed Al-Sabah, the grandson of the 10th emir of Kuwait, The Fragrance Kitchen blends the tradition of Middle Eastern perfumery with the French expertise of Grasse (the perfume capital of the world) where scents are created under the guidance of the top noses and perfumers. Fragrance is very important in the Middle East and most of the time it is still hand made at home, being a tradition which has been passed down from generation to generation.
Fragrance can be a translation of memories and Sheikh Majed has skillfully blended some of his personal ones using Oud, Taif Rose and burning Agarwood, which were all, used by his cherished grandmother. Sheikh Majed’s grandmother taught him how to create scents by mixing oils with precious and raw ingredients. He soon discovered he had a ‘nose’ for perfume and was able to take it out of his grandmother’s kitchen and in to his own ‘Fragrance Kitchen’.
The Fragrance Kitchen collection is divided in six lines, Exclusive, with opulent scents which are narrative-driven, Tribute, an ode to all the destinations of our dreams My, luxurious blends prepared in close collaboration with the finest noses in the world, Modern Heritage, an olfactive shock between the past and the present, Self Portrait, a tribute to inspiration artists and Signature, unisex everyday and fresh scents. Sheikh Majed, a member of the international fashion community for over two decades now, is one of the most sought after entrepreneurs, dreamers and fragrance creators in the Middle East.
To celebrate the UK launch of The Fragrance Kitchen, TFK has created a worldwide exclusive ‘Spike Odyssey’ that will only be available at Selfridges.
The inspiration behind this particular fragrance from TFK is the movie directed by Stanley Kubrick ‘Space Odyssey’ and the song by David Bowie ‘Space Oddity’. An ode to the unknowns and the beauty of life.
Spike Odyssey is a Strong Woody Leather fragrance, part of the Series “MY’ Vegetal Cinema.
Representing some of Sheik Majed’s favorite and most inspirational movies.
‘Spike Odyssey’ is illustrated by a series of bright Cactus filling the desert as stars fill the void of the space.
Will you dare get stung by the spiked thorn of the desert, Floating in the send staring at the infinite universe.
There is your Spike Odyssey
Top notes LIME / ORIS

It’s like a darkness you’ve never known before. The black is so thick that the air seems solid and the universe cannot possibly extend as far as it does. There is a silence here that exists nowhere else. It’s so quiet you can hear your own body working. You can hear your joints creaking and your blood moving around your body. The celestial orbit around you is a milky brilliance filled with pastels only found out here. The brightness of the stars comes to your eyes with a touching organic splendor. The desert’s vast plane is punctuated with the uniformed cacti, reaching up from the ground and standing like rows of soldiers in the deserts own army.
You are aware of the vulnerability of your body and your state of mind as it navigates the landscape. You feel like a newborn child, released into the cool air of a new world. Below your feet the earth spins on its axis in silence.
Sheikh Majed Al-Sabah founder of The Fragrance Kitchen
In 1992, when Sheikh Majed Al-Sabah opened Villa Moda, a 100,000 square foot luxury retail space outside Kuwait City, he was the first to bring Western designers like Donna Karan, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren to the region.
This May, Sheikh Majed Al-Sabah, the grandson of the 10th emir of Kuwait, reversed that strategy by introducing his Middle Eastern perfume house, The Fragrance Kitchen (TFK) to the United Kingdom exclusively at London’s iconic department store, Selfridges.
Sheikh Majed Al-Sabah is quite the social media celebrity with 222K followers and counting on Instragram and 1.6M on Snapchat and counts Tom Ford as one of his close friends.
