The Royal College of Art showcases at Scoop International 8-10 July 2012

Scoop International – the fashion industry’s most contemporary tradeshow held at London’s iconic Saatchi Gallery, will be showcasing a selection of graduates from the Royal College of Art’s (RCA) School of Material – an innovative selection of work from the worlds of Fashion, Textiles, Millinery, Jewellery and Ceramics.

The RCA was founded in 1837 and is celebrating its 175th anniversary, it remains one of the world’s most influential postgraduate art and design colleges, offering MA, MPhil and PhD degrees across 20 programmes.  The RCA has educated some of the world’s most influential and iconic artists, designers and makers including Zandra Rhodes, Philip Treacy and Erdem.

Professor Wendy Dagworthy, RCA Dean of the School of Material and Head of Fashion comments, “This academic year saw the creation of the new School of Material which comprises Ceramics & Glass, Fashion, Goldsmithing, Silversmithing, Metalwork & Jewellery, and Textiles.  As the name implies, an overriding concern with material and form unites these disciplines.  Exhibiting the work of graduates from the School at Scoop in the Saatchi Gallery is an exciting and wonderful opportunity for them to gain  relevant exposure.’’

A selection of 2012 RCA graduates showing at Scoop include: Rebecca Thomson (Fashion Womenswear); Alex Mullins (Fashion Menswear); Zemer Peled (Ceramics & Glass); Peter Bailey (Fashion Menswear); Aku-Petteri Backstrom (Fashion Footwear) and Hannah Morgan (Fashion Millinery).

Professor Clare Johnston, Head of Textiles at the RCA adds, “The RCA Textiles programme is thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase the work of graduating students at Scoop. The exciting work of these innovative young professionals will bring a glimpse of future Textile talent to this prestigious international exhibition.”

The RCA’s installation will be located on the Mezzanine Floor at Scoop International, The Saatchi Gallery.
